Proper Viscosity Viscosity is generally considered to be the most important characteristic of a hydraulic oil. This product is an ISO 32 or SAE 10 weight hydraulic oil. This is the most popular viscosity for hydraulic oil. If a hydraulic oil does not have the right viscosity, it cannot perform satisfactorily, no matter how superior it may be in other respects. Viscosity has a bearing on leakage. If the oil is too light, leakage becomes a problem. Viscosity also has a direct relationship to adequate lubrication because, in any hydraulic system, there are many accurately machined surfaces requiring positive lubrication. The only source of this lubrication is the hydraulic oil. Wide Operating Temperature Range If the machine must be started at low temperatures or operated at low temperatures, SPECIAL LOW TEMPERATURE HYDRAULIC OIL is definitely the product of choice. It is designed for a maximum oil operating temperature of 1500F., but it has a wide operating range. The oil has a pour point of -400F. If you attempt to operate machinery in cold climates or cold starting temperatures, the wide operating range is necessary; otherwise, you will experience excessive leakage, sluggish operation, lower over-all efficiency, and other possible deficiencies. Cold temperatures can be incurred in indoor equipment or hydraulic systems for vehicles operating outside. Combats Oxidation The base oil used in SPECIAL LOW TEMPERATURE HYDRAULIC OIL has been put through solvent extraction and hydro-treating processes. These processes have improved the oil's resistance to oxidation and its response to additives used by Texas Refinery Corp. This oil has been processed to the point it doesn't contribute to sludge and gum problems. Some competitive oils have been poorly refined and inexpensive additives have been used. Obviously those oils can experience a high rate of oxidation. Unfortunately oxidation particles clog small orifices, tend to jam tightly fitted parts, and destroy the whole balance of the system. Moreover, since products of oxidation are acidic, they are likely to attack metal parts and destroy precisely machined surfaces. Fights Rust And Corrosion SPECIAL LOW TEMPERATURE HYDRAULIC OIL contains additives to protect against rust and corrosion. The only way to be sure of the highest degree of rust prevention is to use oils with additives that are known to increase protection against rusting. Fortunately, Texas Refinery Corp. uses superior additives to prevent rust. Additional additives prevent corrosion. When you inspect a corroded surface, you see it is pitted. The working action of corroded parts is sloppy or loose and the leakage they permit is often enough to put a machine completely out of balance. Helps Prevent Wear And Downtime Excessive wear may only cause a loss
in volumetric efficiency; however, all too often it results in a costly
shut-down for replacement and repair as
Low Pour Point The pour point of SPECIAL LOW TEMPERATURE HYDRAULIC OIL is important. The pour point is an indication of the relative ability of the oil to flow at cold temperatures. While pour points of ordinary hydraulic oils usually run well below the freezing point of water, that is insufficient in many cases. The pour point of this product is -400F. The pour point is great importance when the equipment must be started at low temperatures. For most equipment the pour point should be at least 200F. below the lowest operating temperature. If the pour point comes any closer to the operating temperature it is likely the oil will not flow readily into the suction side of the hydraulic pump. Specifications
